Allied bombing left in ruins the historic city of Munich. Since unconditional surrender of Nazi regime began the task of rebuilding the cities. During the cleaning operation in old town it created some debris mountains of tens of meters high in several parts of the city. One of them has transformed over the years at the Luitpold Park, next to the U-Bahn station of Scheidplatz. The mountain is formed per one million cubic meters of debris. At the highest point of the mountain was erected an iron cross with the caption: 'Pray and remember all those people killed under the mountains of rubble. "

The park, covered with grass and trees in summer, turns into a rest area and jogging for Munich inhabitants. In winter, snow often covers the mountain and becomes a makeshift sled track.

From the top of the hill you can see the Olyimpiapark, most notably the Olympiaturm - olympic tower 290 meters high, and the futuristic building that houses BMW Museum.

During the five years of bombing over the city, between 1940 and 1945, there were about 70 air strikes that killed 6,700 people and injured 15,800. The Allies dropped 3.5 million explosive and incendiary bombs and destroying 45 percent of the city. 81,500 homes were destroyed and 300,000 people were left homeless. The various mountains of debris generated as a result of the destruction of the city stored about 5 million cubic meters of rubble.
