Only 10 International Brigades veterans still alive worldwide

War Diary (A.Caralt) - 29/10/2013.- This autumn several events commemorate 75th anniversary of International Brigades departure. The vast majority of them have been or will be held in the absence of veterans, true stars of the multitude of events in his memory that have been held in recent years in Spain.

Two major associations dedicated to keeping alive the memory of the internationals have confirmed to War Diary that just 10 international veterans are alive worldwide.

The ten veterans who are still alive are: Hans Landauer and Gert Hoffmann (Austria), Luis Alberto Quesada (Argentina), Joseph Almudéver and César Covo (France), Juan Miguel de Mora (Mexico), Delmar Berg and John Hovan (United States) Stanley Hilton (United Kingdom, lives in Australia) and Karel Dufek (Czech Republic), although in this case it not have completely certainty. They far exceed 90 years of age.

One of them, Joseph Almudever, spanish-french of 94 years, is right now in Catalonia where he presided several acts of tribute to the International Brigades organized by 'Terra de Germanor'. The last two veterans who participated in the tributes that have died are David Lomon and Erik Ellman.

An estimated 35,000 international volunteers fought in the Spanish Civil War alongside the Republic.
